The Best Games Based On Movies

Over the years, films have teamed up with the gaming world to create a number of iconic titles. From console classics to mobile masterpieces, the offering in this space is extensive. Of course, not all games based on movies hit the mark, but on the whole, the genre has been on the receiving end of some truly memorable titles. From games based on Marvel to titles being released alongside action movies, there’s a whole spectrum of offerings.

The space has seen dramatic growth in recent times, especially as the gaming landscape continues to widen. These days, people aren’t just playing games on consoles like they were back in the day, either. The rise of the smartphone has played a part in the emergence of some truly memorable modern-day releases based on movies, much like the 5-reel, 20 payline Ted slot game, which was inspired by memorable films where a teddy bear comes to life. The options are vast, though. Even bands and artists have games bearing their names. It’s the movie genre that arguably trumps the lot, though, especially when you assess the sheer amount of memorable releases we have been treated to over the years. Below is a look at some of them.

GoldenEye 007

We had to kick things off with a truly amazing classic, GoldenEye 007. Available on Nintendo 64 and Wii when it was released in 1997, this game changed the overall FPS gaming landscape. Following the basic plot of the movie, you play as Bond in an attempt to gain revenge on behalf of his colleague Alex Trevelyan who was killed. Arguably, the best aspect of the game was the multiplayer mode which was not only fun but also resulted in some truly epic battles between friends and family members.

Marvels Avengers

We have touched on this particular movie franchise already, but Marvel’s Avengers is a game that is being played in the modern-day and serves up the action many have grown to love from famous characters like the Hulk, Thor and Captain America. Ever wanted to assemble your very own team of Avengers and take on the baddies in a range of different locations? Marvel’s Avengers is the game for you and it’s available on all the major consoles.

Spider-Man 2

An interactive game created alongside the 2004 masterful movie, Spider-Man 2 made players feel like they were actually Spider-Man as they enjoyed wall-running and jumping up skyscrapers. All this and more came alongside a variety of missions and a story that captured the essence of the movie rather perfectly. In terms of superhero games, it’s certainly one of the best.

Friday the 13th: The Game

A game based on the infamous horror movie franchise, Friday the 13th: The Game was released in 2017 on several consoles before eventually coming out on PC. As you’d probably expect, it served up the same gore and guts we’ve seen before, but its open-world aspect was better than many predicted. You could also play with eight different characters.

Star Wars: TIE Fighter

Star Wars is one of the biggest and most famous movie franchises the world has ever seen, so it’s no surprise to see the movie getting numerous gaming releases after teaming up with a range of different game developers. In the case of Star Wars: TIE Fighter, this 1994 release was an excellent flight simulator and first-person shooter in one. Fighting pirates, insurgents, and traitors to the Empire, it’s a truly epic game.
